The PUBLIC C7i will take you wherever you want to go—in comfort and style.

At the heart of what makes the C7i our standout Dutch-inspired low-step bike is the Shimano Nexus 7-speed internally geared rear hub. This durable, low-maintenance system delivers smooth, effortless shifting and allows you to change gears whether you’re pedaling or stopped at a light. Paired with a simplified drivetrain and our strongest double-walled rims, the C7i is built to provide years of reliable performance—even on rough local streets.

The classic Dutch commuter design has been popular across Europe for decades, thanks in large part to how easy it is to mount and dismount. The upright riding position offers comfort, confidence, and excellent visibility from the rider's perspective.

Like all PUBLIC bikes, the C7i includes front and rear rack mounts, making it easy to add a rack for panniers or a basket. Many riders choose to further personalize their bike with a Brooks saddle and accessories from our thoughtfully curated selection.

In addition to the smooth-shifting Nexus hub, the C7i features powerful dual-pivot brakes for dependable stopping power and 3M reflective sidewall tires to enhance nighttime visibility.

We designed the PUBLIC C7i in response to riders who wanted a high-quality, stylish, internally geared city bike that delivers versatility and function at an accessible price. It’s one of our favorites—and we’re confident it will be yours, too.

Ordering your new PUBLIC bike online is simple. We offer multiple shipping options, including delivery directly to your home or office. Our most popular choice is Ready to Ride shipping, where your bike arrives fully assembled—just install the pedals and adjust the handlebars (tools included), and you’re ready to roll.

"Love how this shifts and my daughter gets lots of compliments on the design!"

Awesome bike!!

"Awesome bike!! Size was perfect, gear adequate for city climbs and the finishes are well done."

Marco A. (5/5)

So far so good

"Bike arrived in good condition. About an hour making it ridable and very comfortable for me. (73 yrs and slightly compromised hips). The only other additional adjustment I made was chain tension. It arrived bar tight, so, adjusted the prescribed quarter inch slack. Enjoying the bike and with the step though option, I can comfortably mount/dismount."

I ordered a ready to

"I ordered a ready to ride and it was very easy to assemble. So far the bike works great, is comfy and easy to start. I’m really liking it!"

Stephen C. (5/5)

It was worth the wait!

"This was sold out for quite a few months and I can see why. It rides like a dream and is rather comfortable! I take this on sidewalks, streets, bike trails, through the dirt - and it holds up well. I really enjoy the shifting, as I can drop down a few gears while completely stopped, making it easier to get going again. Overall beyond happy, and will cherish this bike for years to come!"

Great even if you’re overweight!

"I absolutely love this bike! It’s worth every single cent I was looking for cheaper bikes on Amazon and the many reviews about the bikes falling apart deterred me and made me go okay maybe get something of better quality. The bike is beautiful, I love how easy it is to step through. I’m 5’6 and I got the medium/large size and at first I was like this may be too tall but nope it’s perfect. Shifting gears is smooth and so easy while I ride around my neighborhood and on the bike paths. I’m a whopping 280 lbs, just started my weight loss journey and so far with changing my eating habits of course and my new bike I’m already doing great. I was worried about the seat but it’s surprisingly not only cute but comfortable regardless of my weight. I love the style of this bike I highly recommend the ready to ride option for delivery it’s worth it :). P.S. don’t be like me lol if you get a metal basket make sure you purchase a rack for it to attach to!"

Excellent quality. Speedy Delivery. Outstanding customer service.

"Patience is a virtue. I waited a long time to purchase a new bike in the color I wanted ( it was out of stock). I’m so happy I went with Public. Their customer service is outstanding with quick communication and the quality of the bike and accessories are excellent. The C7i is perfect for my needs and I’m enjoying the gears and brakes. After retiring my road bike (due to some crashes) and my vintage rust bucket cruiser (without gears) I needed a replacement and this bike is perfect! The internal hub gives some protection from the elements (less rust). Seven speeds allows me to stay in the saddle when going up hill. The vintage Dutch style is beautiful to look at with the addition of the silver rear rack, bell and front basket. Public’s ready to ride option is worth the money. It shipped in a box to my door in 4 days. Don’t overlook the smart “bike” quotes on the outside of the box for your reading enjoyment. My new Thousand helmet and accessories in another box along side it. Fantastic!! I emailed customer service about concern I had with the gears. They responded immediately with a video showing the simple adjustment I needed to make. The bike is wonderful to ride. Thank you Public!"

Q&A

I’m only 5’0”… will this bike work for me?
Yes! The SM/MD C7i can fit riders between 4'10" - 5'5"!
Coaster brake? Or hand brakes only?
Hand brakes only
How much does the bike weigh?
The Public C7i weighs roughly ~ 32lbs. Please note that the weight for all of our bikes can be viewed by selecting "View Specs" on the product page.
I have a small C7 bike with a flat tire. Can you tell me the size of the tube?
The C7 uses 700x35c tires with a Schrader valve tube. Any tube that covers a tire of that size (likely a 700x28-38c tube with a Schrader valve) will do the trick.
What psi should the tires be pumped to?
Ideal pressures are printed on the sidewall of the tire.
