Our most affordable Dutch-inspired design, the PUBLIC C1 single-speed step-thru, is everything that a great Dutch bike should be: fun, simple, lightweight, stylish, and comfortable. It's a time-tested classic metropolitan design seen throughout Europe for decades.

Built using the same proven upright geometry as all our multi-speed C models, the PUBLIC C1 forgoes multiple gears in favor of a simple and efficient single-speed drivetrain that is ideally suited for flat or moderately hilly terrain. We have carefully selected the ideal gearing for rolling hills as well as flatter routes.

The PUBLIC C1 is built with a high-quality steel frame and comes complete with full fenders and a chain guard, as well as front and rear rack mounts, which are also standard, ensuring you will always be able to carry your much-needed items if you add an optional rear rack.

Simple, easy to use, and very low maintenance, the C1 is perfect for riders of any level and offers inexpensive, reliable transportation!

The best Dutchi!

"Sweet little bike. I ordered the large (I’m 5’ 6”) pink step-through and couldn’t be happier with the aesthetics. She rides very well. Smooth, no noises. The seat is comfortable. I had the bike assembled by a local bike shop for $50. When they unboxed it they told me a piece of the fork was bent (where it attaches to the wheel) but it wasn’t hard to fix and no paint damage. Decent shipping - waiting was the hardest part!"

Absolutely LOVE my new bike!

"Absolutely LOVE my new bike! Thank you for the speedy delivery. I had a local bike shop do the assembly and they said it was super easy. Added a basket and a seat for our 2-year old and it’s absolutely perfect."

This Dutchie loves it!

"I've been considering buying this bike for months but kept holding off, so glad I finally got it! I'm from the Netherlands so I grew up riding my bike everywhere. I've had a few bikes over the years but none would come close to the bikes I was used to riding. This one honestly comes pretty close! It's such a pretty bike, the size is perfect for my height and it rides very smooth. Can't wait to use it more when the weather gets better."

Nice bike, but...

"Thought it would come 99% assembled. It was not. I had to put on front wheel, front brake, front fender, handlebars, seat, Pedals, brake cables, and adjust brakes. Front fork paint was gouged from having front wheel shipped wedged in there. Pedals do not spin easily and will require specialized tools to adjust bearings. So, it took longer to assemble - with my own tools - no tools came with the bike. Luckily I am handy enough that I figured it out. It worked out and my wife really likes the bike. I just would rather have had the 99% build. Perhaps there was small print somewhere I didn’t see."

Nice Bike, Nice Ride

"My eternal love got this bike from a friend ($100 for this and a Trek 800?). It was ten years old but in great shape (tires have a date code). I eventually replaced the tires and tubes, added mirrors, a bell, a rack and paneers. My wife loved it--although she would have preferred the C7i The small/medium frame fit her well, and although it is a bit too small for me (6' 1/2") even with seat and handle bars in highest position, I rode it for a year after cancer took her away. I too like it a lot, and only the size prompted me to look into another bike. I think the V7i Med/large will be more my speed and I've order it."

Mark S. (5/5)

Bike is cool, but installation was not great

"Incorrect instructions sent in the box. had to shave the metal in the front brake mounting hole to get the installation done."

Kyle M. (3/5)

Great bike

"Love the Dutch frame, step thru and basket!"

Jessie Y. (5/5)

I love this European style

"I love this European style bike...I have a racing bike, a mountain bike, a beach cruiser...but I think this Dutch style bike has the nicest ride."

Jill R. (5/5)

Q&A

Please give us frame measurements, basic question really
Hi Roman, You can find key frame measurements—such as seat tube length, effective top tube, and standover height—by selecting "Find My Size" on the product page. Thanks, Public Bikes Support
If right at the height between sizes, do you recommend sizing up or down?
I would recommend sizing down
WHAT SIZE WHEEL IN INCHES ?
The C1 comes with a 700C wheel which is the near-universal wheel size for road bikes (and some mountain bikes). Including the tires, the wheels measure just under 28”.
Is touch up paint available?
Yes! Please contact customerservice@publicbikes.com to let us know what you need.
What assembly is required on Public C1
We recommend our Ready to Ride shipping or professional assembly from your local bike shop.
