Customers are welcomed to change or cancel an order prior to shipment, which is usually within 24 hours of placing the order.  Kindly email us at customerservice@publicbikes.com or call our customer service line at 1-888-450-0123 to modify your order. We’re unable to make any changes to an order after the item(s) is shipped.

Delivery & Shipping

Shipping Options for Bikes (Domestic US ONLY)

  • Ready to Ride shipping. With Ready to Ride shipping, the bicycle is delivered directly to you and arrives 99% assembled, within 7-10 business days, depending on where you live. All you need to do is unwrap the bike, complete a few simple assembly steps, and be riding in less than 10 minutes. Ready to Ride shipping is also our recommended solution for gift purchases to be sent anywhere in the contiguous US for a flat fee of $149 per bike.
    • Find Your Own Mechanic. You'll receive a partially assembled bike packed in a smaller factory box that has not been fine-tuned by our mechanics. This option is not for novices. It will not include instructions or specialized tools needed for the complicated process of building a bike for safe riding. You will need to contact a reputable bike shop in your area to schedule an appointment for their mechanics to build and tune the bike. If you run into problems with your bike down the road, we are only able to assist you if you can provide documentation that your bike was professionally assembled in a certified bike shop. PUBLIC is not responsible for any damage, failures, or injuries caused by bicycles that were not professionally assembled. The cost for this method is FREE.
      • Partner Pickup. PUBLIC stores and Assembly Partners can receive most PUBLIC bikes ordered online from us and will professionally assemble and tune your PUBLIC bike. The participating store or partner will notify you when your bike is fully assembled and ready for pick-up. You will also receive a walk-through and basic fitting upon pick up. Due to limited storage space, orders not picked up within 14 days of receiving notification that your order is ready may incur additional storage charges. Orders not picked up within 30 days will be canceled and returned. Please contact us before ordering to make arrangements if you need to pickup your order at a later date. The cost for this method is $75 per bike and FREE for any bike being delivered to a participating Mike's Bikes partner store.
        • Need it now? Call any of our Showroom Partners stores to see if we have your items in stock. If one of our stores has what you're looking for, you can place an order with them over the phone.

          Shipping & Order Processing

We're working hard to get your order packed quickly. It usually takes about 1-2 business days for us to pack up and ship out your order.

Shipping times are within the continental U.S.

A pre-order refers to a item that is either new or is not currently in stock and will be available at a future date. Select items listed as a pre-order are available for purchase in advance and will ship once they become available. Full payment is taken in advance in order to guarantee you that specific item.

Shipment of any in-stock items on the same order may be delayed until your pre-order item is ready for shipping. To ensure faster delivery of your in-stock items, we recommend making two separate orders - one for your pre-order items and one for your available items.

As a result of COVID-19, supply chains are experiencing significant delays in manufacturing, delivery, and transit. Please understand that these estimates are not always guaranteed, as production can be subject to external factors that our beyond our control and may result in your pre-ordered item shipping at a later date.

A bike that fits properly is more fun to ride. The guides below offer size suggestion based on height in inches. If you have measuring tape, you may also determine your size by measuring your leg length plus one inch, which is your stand over measurement. For all bikes, we recommend at least 1 inch of space between you and the top tube of the bike.

When in doubt, contact our customer service team via email at customerservice@publicbikes.com or phone at 1-888-450-0123. For children’s bikes, smaller bikes are always easier for beginners.

*Please note: some riders may be a little outside of these height range recommendations but prefer the feel of a larger or smaller bike. Stand over height measurement is not as important as how the bike geometry feels while it is being ridden.

          Love at First Ride Guarantee

We want you to love our products as much as we do. If you’re not 100% satisfied with your purchase within 14 days, just send it back for an exchange or refund, whichever you prefer. Full refunds guaranteed if bike is returned without scratches or marks on the frame.

          Return Policy

Purchasing a bicycle online is a substantial investment and costly to ship. If you have any questions or reservations prior to your purchase, we simply ask that you contact us by phone or email to help clarify anything for you. It is always far more cost-effective for all parties to address technical or sizing questions prior to purchase rather than after.

We offer a “Love at First Ride” Guarantee on all bikes. If you’re not 100% satisfied with your purchase, simply return it to us within 14 days of delivery for an exchange or refund (less shipping and assembly costs*). If your bike or gear is returned in new condition without scratches or marks on the frame, we will provide a full refund. If we cannot resell your bike or gear at full retail value, we will provide partial refund based on the market value of the returned bike or gear.

Please make sure to package your order as it was packaged when it arrived to you, in order to avoid any shipping damage. You will need to pay for the cost of return shipping. This may seem excessive, but it represents all costs associated with returning a bicycle, inclusive of inspection, labor, warehouse handling, paperwork, and depreciation. We will gladly ship any exchanged merchandise free of charge.

Once we receive and process your return, we will refund the purchase amount to the original form of payment or apply the appropriate credit to an exchange. Depending on your method of return, the entire process – from requesting a return form to receiving a refund – generally takes two to three weeks.

Online returns and exchanges couldn't be easier - submit your online Return Form HERE and a PUBLIC team member will be in contact with you shortly.

          * Shipping and assembly costs will be refunded if you receive an item that is defective or damaged.

          Damaged Merchandise Returns

People aren’t the only ones who get road rash. Please inspect your package upon arrival. If a shipment arrives with obvious shipping damage, please inspect the product inside. If the product is damaged, please refuse delivery and contact us. If you find the damage after accepting delivery, please save all boxes, packing materials and paperwork – don’t throw anything away – and immediately contact us.

If you select our unassembled shipping option, you'll receive an unbuilt bike in a factory box that hasn't been fine-tuned by our mechanics (tools and assembly guide not included). To ensure your bike is safe to ride, we only recommend assembly in a bike shop by professional bicycle mechanics with specialty tools and training.

If you live near a PUBLIC partner store, you can place an order online and pick up your full assembled PUBLIC bike, zero hassle. If you don't live near one of our partner stores, we recommend our Ready to Ride Shipping option where you receive a bike that's been 99% assembled by our expert mechanics and is delivered right to your door.

Our PUBLIC kids' bikes ship partially assembled to your door with simple instructions and tools to complete the finishing steps. An assembly guide can be found here but professional assembly is still highly recommended.

Unlike our adult bicycles, your warranty will not be voided if home assembled. However, make sure to follow our assembly guidelines—product damage due to improper assembly is not covered by warranty.

At this time, we are only able to ship within the domestic United States at the advertised shipping rates. If you have a friend or relative with a U.S. shipping address, we can ship there, however, you must pick it up and take care of all requisite duty and tax. If you live outside of the continental US and would like to place an order, please contact us directly at 888.450.0123 for an accurate shipping quote.

Our bikes weigh anywhere from 25-32 lbs, depending on the size and number of gears on the bike. Lighter bikes tend to be made of aluminum or carbon, but we've built our bikes from lightweight steel which will last a lifetime and beyond – and will comfortably absorb the shocks of urban riding significantly better than other materials.

This subject is near and dear to our heart. We are a California company and we design and spec our bikes in the San Francisco Bay Area. The final assembly and fine-tuning is performed with care by our expert technicians in Marin County, California. The different bike components are sourced from all over the world, from Brooks of England to Shimano of Japan, and the frames are built to our unique specifications by industry leaders in Taiwan.

The bike industry in Asia is highly sophisticated, and many manufacturers there have earned a reputation for excellence in producing world-class bikes for decades. We explored numerous manufacturing sources when we set out to establish PUBLIC. We visited bike makers in the U.S., Holland, and Italy, and all of them directed us to Asia. We stand by our product and are proud to be among the handful of quality bike companies working with the some of the best industry leaders in the world.

While the U.S. – and Europe too – has lost its ability to compete on moderately priced “production” bikes, the U.S. excels internationally at handmade bikes. There are numerous highly skilled-framed builders that we can refer you to for a U.S. made frame. We know many of these craftsmen personally. These handmade bikes cost more than ours, of course, as well they should. There are also numerous independent bike stores in urban areas in the U.S. that can build a great custom bike for you, as well as superb high-end limited production manufacturers like Seven Cycles, Independent Fabricators, and Serotta that make some of the best custom bikes in the world. Keep in mind that all of these superb manufacturers rely to some degree on some foreign based components.

PUBLIC is committed to creating a free world for all. Through a partnership with Made In A Free World, we are using the FRDM™ platform to analyze leading risk indicators and protect against forced labor in our supply chain.

PUBLIC warrants each frame, fork, and original component part of the bicycle against defects in workmanship and materials:

          • The bicycle frame and fork are covered for the lifetime of the original owner
          • Paint, decals and all components are covered for a period of one (1) year
          • All original parts are covered for a period of one (1) year This warranty does not cover:
            • Normal wear and tear
            • Improper assembly
            • Improper follow-up maintenance
            • Installation of parts or accessories not originally intended for, or compatible with, the bicycle as sold
            • Damage or failure due to accident, misuse, abuse, or neglect
            • Labor charges for part replacement or changeover

This warranty is void in its entirety by any modification of the frame, fork, or components. This warranty is expressly limited to the repair or replacement of a defective item and is the sole remedy of the warranty. This warranty extends from the date of purchase, applies only to the original owner, and is not transferable. PUBLIC Bikes, Inc. is not responsible for incidental or consequential damages. Some states do not allow the exclusion of incidental or consequential damages, so the above exclusion may not apply to you.

Claims under this warranty must be made through PUBLIC. To process your warranty claim, submit the following to customerservice@publicbikes.com.

          • A photo of the issue
          • A description of the issue
          • Your serial number

Proof of purchase and assembly by a professional mechanic is required. Please note a photo and serial number are essential to processing your submission.

This warranty gives the consumer specific legal rights, and those rights may vary from place to place. This warranty does not affect the statutory rights of the consumer.

Each PUBLIC model features a unique serial number that identifies the make and model of your bike. The unique serial number also proves ownership of the bike to the purchaser in our customer database.  Your unique serial number is engraved into the frame and located underneath the bottom bracket where the crank arms meet the frame.  Simply turn your bike upside down and record the number (see diagram below).
