PUBLIC + Good Vibrations Haiku Contest

Can you put something exciting in words, or more specifically, in 17 syllables or fewer?

PUBLIC + Good Vibrations, with support from Sex+Design, are hosting a Haiku Contest around the theme of “Put Something Exciting Between Your Legs.”

Participants can submit entries from July 24-August 20, 2012 to win prize packages. Winners will be announced at our Haiku Contest Closing Party on August 23 evening.

What do riding bikes and writing poetry have in common? Not much and everything. They both can be a lot of fun. They both can ask you to look at the world a little differently. They both inspire you to take a different route just for pleasure. Haiku poetry and bikes are an especially good pairing because they are both about economy and simplicity. They both can get us to pay attention and to smile a little more.

What's a Haiku?

The haiku must use 17 syllables or fewer arranged in three lines of 5, 7 and 5 syllables (or fewer) exploring the theme of "Put Something Exciting Between Your Legs." We will leave it up your creativity and imagination to explore this theme.

Come Party on August 23

The Haiku Closing Party will take place in the Mission neighborhood from 5:30-6:30pm at PUBLIC’s 599 Valencia Store and 6:30-7:30pm at Good Vibrations 603 Valencia store. Good Vibrations Staff Sexologist Dr. Carol Queen will give an educational and inspirational tour at 7pm at Good Vibrations at the Closing Party on August 23.

How to Enter

Each person can submit up to three haiku entries. All entries must be in English and the original work of the submitter. Enter here.

We will select one Haiku contest winner (based on our subjective judgment) and five runner-up winners.

Prizes

• One winner will receive $250 PUBLIC gift certificate that can be applied on any new PUBLIC bike, a PUBLIC Farmer’s Market Picnic Basket, one-year subscription to Sex+Design Magazine, and a $50 gift card and goodie bag of mixed delights from Good Vibrations.

• Five runner-ups will receive a PUBLIC Farmer’s Market Picnic Basket, plus a goodie bag of mixed delights from Good Vibrations.
